CoE Expert Opinion concerning Draft Law on Personal Data Protection of Georgia discussed at the internal meeting of the State Inspector's Service

Representatives of the State Inspectors' Service (national data protection authority) gathered at the internal meeting to discuss the Council of Europe expert Opinion on compatibility of the draft Law on Personal Data Protection with the Convention 108+ on the protection of individuals with regard to the processing of personal data.

The draft Law has been submitted to the Parliament of Georgia by the State Inspector's Service last year. It aims at harmonising the personal data processing practices in Georgia with relevant European standards. The Council of Europe expert Opinion, prepared in the framework of co-operation project, recommends further enhancement of the draft Law to ensure its full compliance with the Convention 108+.

The meeting was led by the State Inspector and involved representatives of major Departments of the Service. The three-day sessions aimed at identifying the prospects of reflecting the Expert recommendations in the draft Law.

The Council of Europe will further support the process of adoption of the Law on Personal Data Protection in line with respective standards in the context of the legal and policy environment in Georgia.

The meeting was organised in the framework of the Council of Europe Project "Supporting Freedom of Media and internet in Georgia".
