Another training for judges on the latest case-law of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the European Court of Human Rights

In co-operation with the High School of Justice, the Council of Europe and the European Union organised the second seminar for judges on the latest case-law of the Supreme Court of Georgia and the European Court of Human Rights. The training facilitators informed judges about the recent developments of court practice in relation to domestic violence, admissibility of evidence, the right to liberty, pre-trial measures, trial preparation, and various aspects of fair trial standards.

In addition, the participants discussed the main findings of a review of Criminal Procedure Code and related legislation requiring legislative amendments developed by the Council of Europe experts. The review serves as a comprehensive document for further improvement aligning Georgia’s criminal procedure legislation with the best European standards.

This training was organised in the framework of the project "Supporting the criminal justice reforms - tackling criminal aspects of the judicial reforms in Georgia", funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance II.
