Police officers in Bosnia and Herzegovina gain vital skills to recognise, prevent, and combat digital violence against women

Three consecutive training sessions were held for a group of twenty police officers – 9 women and 11 men – from ten cantons of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina in June and July 2025 as part of a comprehensive training programme on addressing technology-facilitated violence against women.

The training series was designed to build the capacity of law enforcement in recognising, preventing, and responding to technology-facilitated violence against women and girls.

The training enhanced participants’ knowledge of digital violence and improved their ability to investigate and respond to such cases. Special focus was given to applying international standards, including the Istanbul Convention, and fostering cooperation among key institutions such as police agencies, schools, and social services.

This capacity-building initiative marks an important step in strengthening Bosnia and Herzegovina’s institutional response to gender-based violence in the digital age. It has deepened the understanding of digital and sexual violence as distinct forms of violence against women, helping to align police practices with the principles of the Istanbul Convention and Council of Europe standards.

This series of events was organised as part of the project “Combating digital and sexual violence against women in Bosnia and Herzegovina II” implemented by the Council of Europe under the Action plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2022-2025 and funded through voluntary contributions.
