The Council of Europe has supported an initiative by the Ministry of Security and the Ministry of Justice of Bosnia and Herzegovina to launch the process of establishing an effective compensation mechanism for victims of trafficking in human beings.
The initiative marks the beginning of a renewed institutional process to identify an appropriate compensation model and strengthen victims’ effective access to compensation. As a first concrete step, representatives of relevant institutions discussed possible approaches and agreed to seek official positions from the competent authorities, which will provide the basis for determining the way forward.
The activity was supported through the Council of Europe project “Strengthening Anti-Trafficking Responses in Bosnia and Herzegovina through Systemic Reform, Policy Development and Comprehensive Support for Victims”, funded through voluntary contributions under the Council of Europe Action Plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina 2026–2029.
