Continuous anti-discrimination training for judges and prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina

38 judges and prosecutors in Bosnia and Herzegovina underwent two training sessions on 16 – 18 October in Sarajevo in policies and practices for combating discrimination organised by the Council of Europe. The training sessions particularly focused on addressing, recognizing, and preventing bias that might lead to, inter alia, instances of hate speech, hate crimes, or gender inequality.

These efforts contribute to the continuous professional development of judges and prosecutors under the Council of Europe’s framework to enhance their ability to apply standards set by the European Court of Human Rights and adequately address discrimination cases in court proceedings.

The two training sessions further build on the initial human rights training provided to judges and prosecutors in line with the Human Rights Training Curriculum. The training is implemented so as to integrate both online and in-person methods, with online learning effected via the Council of Europe HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) platform.

The two anti-discrimination training sessions for judges and prosecutors in BiH were carried out as part of the Council of Europe project Support to a coherent national implementation of the European Convention on Human Rights and facilitating the execution of judgements of the European Court of Human Rights in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is funded through the Action plan for Bosnia and Herzegovina for the period 2022-2025.
