Call for Applications - Journalism Excellence Awards: Ethical reporting on Roma and Travellers and combating antigypsyism through the media

The third edition of the Journalism Excellence Awards is organised within the framework of the Council of Europe`s Strategy for Roma and Traveller Issues (2026 – 2030).

The Awards aim to promote a positive image in the media or raise awareness on specific issues affecting Roma and Traveller communities in Europe. Besides other transversal topics, a special award will focus on ethical reporting on Roma and Traveller history education and remembrance.

Call for applications is targeting media sphere (print media, TV media, photographers, reporters, journalists, etc.) in all the Council of Europe (CoE) member states.

Five categories will be evaluated and awarded a prize of €2000 at the Awards ceremony to be held in Strasbourg on 18 June 2026, during the 2026 No Hate Speech Week:

  • Photojournalism Award
  • Investigative Journalism Award
  • Best Interview Award
  • Roma and Traveller`s` History and Holocaust Remembrance Award
  • Special Young Journalists Award

 Regulations 

 Application form

The application form must be submitted in English. The journalistic materials must be submitted in attachment (electronic files) or as a hyperlink. In case of supporting materials produced in local language a good-quality English translation or summary needs to be provided with the application.

The application must reach the Secretariat responsible for the organisation of the Awards at the latest on 6 April 2026 (23:59 CET) by e-mail to the following address: [email protected]. Please clearly indicate in the subject line  ‘Journalism Excellence Awards 2026’ and your full name.
