Protecting Human Rights and Fighting Corruption in Sport

Which steps could be taken by public authorities to address human rights’ violations in the context of sport? How to support sport movement to protect and promote human rights? What are the obstacles to leading a more effective fight against corruption in the field of sport?

Taking stock of Council of Europe pioneering normative action and innovative policies in the field of human rights and in the fight against corruption in sport, these topics will be at the centre of the debate of the 15th Council of Europe Conference of Ministers responsible for Sport, organised in Tbilisi (October 16th, venue: The Biltmore Hotel, 29 Rustaveli Avenue), in the framework of the activities of the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Sport (EPAS).

The Conference will be opened by Deputy Secretary General Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni and by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Batiashvili. Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze will intervene at the opening ceremony.

Welcoming addresses will also be delivered by State Secretary of the Central State Office for Sport of Croatia (representing the Chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers), Janica Kostelic and by the President of the European Olympic Committees, Janez Kocijančič.

Closing speeches will be provided by Chair of the EPAS Consultative Committee Jens Andersen, Council of Europe Director of Anti-Discrimination Jeroen Schokkenbroek and by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Batiashvili.
