Raising the awareness on the right to life among military conscripts and military personnel is envisaged by the National Strategy of Human Rights Protection in Armenia for 2020-2022 (Action No. 48 of the Action Plan). Implementation of this action is supported by the Council of Europe Project “Human Rights and Women in the Armed Forces in Armenia’’. Inter alia, this action is planned to be achieved by developing posters regarding human rights in the armed forces (i.e., right to life and the prohibition of torture) and exhibiting those in 60% of military bases and military conscription offices.

The Project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence, has already produced the first Poster, which is on the right to life. The Poster includes information about everyone’s right to life as well as the obligations of the state during the conscription and the actual military service. The Poster also provides the information on the positive obligations of the state, including during the state of emergency, as well as danger to public health e.g. COVID-19. The next poster to come will be focused on prohibition of torture.

The Right to Life Poster is published in 1,000 copies and will be disseminated amongst the military bases and conscription offices.

The Project “Human rights and Women in the armed forces of Armenia” is implemented by the Council of Europe within the framework of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2019-2022 and funded by the United Kingdom. Action Plan level funding is provided by Germany, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Sweden.
