Today, 15 October, in Geneva, Judith Wyttenbach, member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities (ACFC) in respect of Switzerland and Gender Equality Rapporteur, took part in the panel discussion of a side-event in the margins of the Geneva Peace Week 2025, entitled “From Margin to Centre: Acknowledging & Strengthening Minority Women’s Role in Peacebuilding”.
The event, which was co-organised by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), the Council of Europe and Legal Action Worldwide (LAW), was opened by Ambassador Christophe Kamp, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities and Ambassador Miroslav Papa, Special Representative of the Secretary General (SRSG) of the Council of Europe for United Nations. It attracted participants from Geneva based diplomatic community, representatives of the UN, the OSCE, the EU and the Council of Europe, as well as the civil society and academia.
In her intervention, Judith Wyttenbach presented the gender mainstreaming work of the Advisory Committee and stressed that the principles of equality and participation enshrined in the Framework Convention support broader efforts to involve women, including those from national minorities, in peacebuilding processes and conflict resolution strategies. She also informed the participants of the publication of a new factsheet on the challenges faced by women and girls belonging to national minorities.
