On 9-13 October 2023, the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities held its 81st plenary meeting in Graz, Austria.
The Advisory Committee adopted its final opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Latvia, Liechtenstein and Sweden. These opinions will become public early next year once the authorities' comments, if any, received.
The Advisory Committee also approved its draft opinions on the implementation of the Convention by Bosnia and Herzegovina, Denmark and Georgia, all of which will now undergo a confidential dialogue phase with the states parties concerned before being examined again and adopted at a forthcoming plenary session.
On 12 October, a public event organised by the University of Graz was held to reflect on ‘Twenty-five years of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities: Achievements and Current Challenges’ with guest speakers from the Advisory Committee, academics and national minority representatives.
Finally, on 13 October, the Advisory Committee held an exchange of views with Dunja Mijatović, Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe.
