Back Transitions in education → transitions in life: Keep an eye on it!

A training resource, developed within the Pestalozzi Programme, which puts emphasis on the changes that we experience in educational, professional and private dimensions. Transitioning from a school level to the other, or from a school in one’s own country to a entirely new environment can be very challenging for everyone, particularly young people. Thus, this resource invites teachers to reflect on the transitions that they encounter daily, whether in their personal life or among their students. Becoming aware of these changes or transitions enables teachers to better understand their learners and the challenges they might be facing as they go through transitional phases in their lives.

In addition, the training module draws a line between national educational systems in terms of cultural, linguistic, social, gender and religious diversity and its impact on teachers’ decisions about young people who are dependent on the system. Participation in the orchestrated activities, which encourage reflection in pair work, group discussions and debriefing within this module, highlights the challenges experienced by young people who lack native language competence in the country where they live. Finally, the resource invites teachers to think of immediate steps which can be taken to provide individual support to their learners in heterogeneous settings.
