This resource aims to equip trainers and teachers with ways of introducing a democratic environment into their learning environment that fosters critical thinking, the development and reflection of democratic competences and effective communication. It is the goal of this unit to introduce the Competences for a Democratic Culture model to further develop and standardise democratic competences that focus on human rights and beyond.
The unit allows participants to reflect on their understanding of democratic competences while contextualising it with the model above. In a group-work the participants identify common stereotypes, deconstruct them and discuss possible consequences for their own perspectives as well as for future classroom work.
This resource can be used for training with teachers to prepare them for the classroom implementation of the Competences for Democratic Cultures model. It may also be used for advanced secondary school students to help them to reflect on their own perspective of human rights and democratic competences.
