Rijeka is the principal seaport and the third-largest city in Croatia (after Zagreb and Split). It is located on Kvarner Bay, an inlet of the Adriatic Sea and has a population of 128,624 inhabitants (2011).

The largest majority group - people from Croatia - make up 80.39% of Rijeka’s population. Non-nationals make up 5.05% of Rijeka’s total inhabitants. The smallest minority group - people from Serbia - make up 6% of the city’s population.
