During the period 17-26 May 2021, the Council of Europe carried out a training course on combating hate speech in the audio-visual media for journalists from the Republic of Moldova, with 5 sessions focused on key concepts, national and international standards, and case studies on identifying and tackling hate-speech and discrimination practices in the audio-visual environment.

The training course brought together 25 journalists, from the national public broadcaster, Teleradio-Moldova, and journalists from different media providers from the country, who had the possibility to develop their practical abilities in applying the instruments for preventing intolerance in the audio-visual mass-media, to learn through practical exercises, and to have an open dialogue on actual problems in combating hate speech encountered in their current activity.

The journalists expressed their interest to continue studying this subject and participate in future activities of the Council of Europe on the same thematic, for improving the practice and knowledge on freedom of expression and non-discrimination, and hate speech in the journalistic activity.

The training course was organised in the framework of the project “Promoting European standards in the audio-visual regulation of the Republic of Moldova” and of the regional project “Strengthening access to justice for victims of discrimination, hate crime and hate speech in the Eastern Partnership”, in the framework of the Partnership for Good Governance Programme (PGG II), funded by the European Union and co-funded and implemented by the Council of Europe.
