CEP Seminar on (De) Radicalisation and Rehabilitation

Organised by our partners in the project EU-CoE HELP Radicalisation prevention, Judicial response to terrorism and International cooperation in criminal matters, the CEP (Confederation of European Probation), this seminar was held on 9 December in Barcelona.

The seminar addressed the key issues of rehabilitation and building up working relationships, and participants were introduced into these topics by three excellent presenters: Mr. Robert Örell (independent expert and co-chair of the RAN rehabilitation working group, Sweden), Ms. Saray Valdivieso (prison psychologist, Spain Catalonia) and Professor Ioan Durnescu (University of Bucharest, Romania). Eva Massa from the Council of Europe HELP programme provided the background to the project and the results to date.

The event was attended by prison and probation officers from: Albania, Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Ireland, Latvia, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and The Netherlands. They learned from experts about relevant topics, including: how to set up a relationship with ‘hard to reach’ individuals like VEOs, the work with VEOs -evaluation and recidivism. They also shared experiences from their respective countries and ideas at group sessions and there was also an opportunity for networking.
