On 27 November, the Council of Europe project “Combating Violence against Women in Ukraine - Phase III” (COVAW III) held its first Steering Committee Meeting, allowing the representatives of the Ukrainian authorities and members of civil society to take stock of progress and plan 2026 activities.
Project partners emphasised key results, including capacity-development for prosecutors on domestic violence and the strategic session dedicated to adapting Ukraine's perpetrator programme to European standards. The meeting was an opportunity to present the upcoming “Handbook on Gender Mainstreaming in Action in Ukraine”. Civil society organisations highlighted their awareness-raising projects on promoting the values, aims and main provisions of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention).
Meeting participants, including Kateryna Levchenko, Government Commissioner on Gender Policy, and Liudmyla Shemelynets, First Deputy Minister of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine, expressed gratitude for Council of Europe support in combating violence against women and promoting gender equality and stated their readiness to engage further with the project.
