Rights of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls in focus at CSW side-event

In the margins of the 67th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) in New York, the Council of Europe organised a side-event on: “Responding to Regional and Global Challenges: Protecting the Rights of Migrant, Refugee and Asylum-seeking Women and Girls” . The event was co-organised with the Permanent Mission of Iceland to the United Nations during the Icelandic Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.  It took place on Tuesday, 7 March 2023 at 11:30 AM -12:45 PM EST (5:30 - 6:45 PM CET) in UN General Assembly Building Conference Room 4. The live UNTV broadcast link is available on the event’s page.

This side-event highlighted the challenges and specific needs of migrant, refugee and asylum-seeking women and girls, and outlined the existing legal framework, providing useful guidance. Bringing together leaders, partners and civil society representatives, the event fostered an understanding of how gender aspects intersect with migration, and promoted gender equality and human dignity. The event was opened by the Prime Minister of Iceland,  Katrin Jakobsdóttir.
