On 13 May 2026, more than 150 representatives from various ministries, law enforcement agencies, civil society organisations, and academia took part in a roundtable presenting the Council of Europe Gender Equality Strategy 2024–2029 to Ukrainian stakeholders and discussing its implementation in Ukraine.
The event shed light on the ambition and objectives of the Gender Equality Strategy, as well as its foundational significance in promoting gender equality as a core element of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. It also served as a platform for sharing promising practices regarding the implementation of the Strategy, and for identifying areas for improvement and potential partnerships.
“Discussions, which took place today during the presentation of the Council of Europe Strategy on Gender Equality for 2024–2029, are primarily about security, human dignity, trust and the resilience of society.
War exacerbates many problems. Digital technologies and the development of artificial intelligence create new challenges - information dangers, online violence, and the spread of discriminatory practices.
Thus, the synergy of state institutions, civil society and international partners in the development of solutions is so important. Such platforms can change the environment - make it safe and fair” said Olha Herasymiuk, First Deputy Chair of the National Council of Television and Radio Broadcasting of Ukraine.
This event was organised in partnership with the Government Commissioner for Gender Equality Policy of Ukraine and the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, within the framework of the project “Combating Violence against Women in Ukraine – Phase III” (COVAW-III) which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Ukraine “Resilience, Recovery and Reconstruction” 2023-2026.
