High-level on-line seminar “Advancing Gender Equality: The role and situation for gender equality mechanisms in the context of COVID-19”

Greek President H.E. Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, President of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović-Burić, opened the seminar “Advancing Gender Equality: The role and situation for gender equality mechanisms in the context of COVID-19”, organised by the Gender Equality Commission of the Council of Europe, in partnership with the Greek Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. The 3-hour online event took place on 21 October from 2.30pm to 5.30pm (CEST) and examined the gendered consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and the role of institutional mechanisms to limit the negative consequences of this crisis. Speakers exchanged promising practices at the national and international levels, providing a platform to discuss solutions to strengthen gender equality institutions in the current context.
