HELP online course on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence graduation ceremony for Law Students in Kosovo*

On 25 May, the project "Reinforcing the fight against violence against women and domestic violence in Kosovo* - phase II", in co-operation with the Justice Academy of Kosovo, organised the online graduation ceremony for 21 law students from the Law Faculty of University of Pristina for the HELP (Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals) online course on Violence against Women and Domestic Violence.

On this occasion, keynote remarks to mark the ceremony were offered by Dr. Avni Puka, Dean of Faculty of Law – University of Pristina, Tankut Soykan, Deputy Head of the Council of Europe Office in Pristina, Valentina Boz, CoE HELP Unit, Enver Fejzullahu, Director of Justice Academy and Merita Limani, CoE Senior Project Officer. Graduating students shared their learning experiences and their future professional plans.

The HELP course covered the International and European legal framework and case law on the prevention and protection of women and girls from violence, focusing in particular on the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).

In its 9 weeks’ timeframe, the students advanced their knowledge on the following modules:

  • Understanding violence against women and domestic violence
  • International and European Legal Framework
  • Overcoming barriers to Justice
  • Criminal Justice Response
  • Civil Justice Response
  • Alternative Dispute Resolution
