Focus groups to develop a campaign on violence against women and domestic violence in Azerbaijan

On 12 and 17 March 2021, a series of online focus groups were held with Azerbaijani stakeholders. The meetings aimed to support the development of a national campaign against violence against women and domestic violence and to raise awareness of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convention) in Azerbaijan. During these meetings, stakeholders provided their ideas on what the priorities could be when developing the campaign, and what are the barriers in combating women and domestic violence.

Three focus groups were held with international organisations, civil society and independent human rights lawyers working the field of women’s rights and violence against women and domestic violence.

This activity took place under the joint action ‘Raising awareness of the Istanbul Convention and other gender equality standards in Azerbaijan’ currently implemented within the Programme for Good Governance II (PGGII), a European Union and Council of Europe joint programme in the Eastern Partnership countries. Among other objectives, the joint action seeks to support the Azerbaijani authorities to sign the Istanbul Convention.
