On May 22, the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (DEJ), accompanied by a member of the Secretariat of the European Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), met in Paris with representatives from various departments of the Ministry of Justice (General Secretariat, Directorate of Criminal Affairs and Pardons, and Directorate General of Prison Administration) and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs (Directorate of Legal Affairs and Permanent Representation of France to the Council of Europe).
Discussions focused on the implementation of the J.M.B. and Others case concerning prison overcrowding and material conditions of detention in correctional facilities. This case will be examined by the Committee of Ministers at its next Human Rights meeting in June 2026.
This technical meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the excellent cooperation between the Department for the Execution of Judgments and the French authorities.
