On 2 October 2019, representatives of the Department for the Execution together with the colleague from the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity met with the Minister of Justice of North Macedonia H.E. Renata Deskoska to discuss the execution of a legal gender recognition case.
The exchange was constructive and resulted in a clear roadmap on the next steps to be taken to ensure the adoption of the law in line with the European Court’s indications in the X v. the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia case. It was agreed the Council of Europe would provide support to the authorities in this process.
It is expected that the authorities will provide an initial action plan to the Committee of Ministers before 17 October 2019.
