In the context of the EU/CoE Joint Project “Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education", the 1st Strategic Planning Meeting for Policy Recommendations was held in Ankara on September 29.

Bringing together policy makers from the Ministry of National Education, the meeting started with opening speeches by Cristian URSE, Head of the CoE Programme Office in Ankara, Sarah KEATING, Head of the Co-operation and Capacity Building Division of the Education Department, and Yaşar KOÇAK, Director General of Basic Education (Ministry of National Education).

National and international experts of the project presented the strategic policy report prepared as a baseline. Further workshops and meetings will serve to finalize policy recommendations on how to integrate the Competences for Democratic Culture (CDC) into Turkish Educational policy documents.

Country examples on the implementation of CDC from around Europe were also presented and contributed to the brainstorming sessions.
