EU/CoE Joint Project on Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education - First Module of Trainings of Trainers

The training programme on competences for a democratic culture was officially launched on July 26th, in Ankara. Officials from the Ministry of National Education and Council of Europe representatives gave opening speeches and welcomed the participants. National and international experts conducted the training sessions for five days for 240 teachers selected from the project’s 110 pilot schools.

These training sessions, organised within the scope of the project joint EU/CoE project Strengthening Democratic Culture in Basic Education, aim to develop the necessary knowledge and skills for teachers to help them better understand the competences for democratic culture (CDC) and promote them in their respective schools.

The trainings also served to familiarise teachers with educational support materials and the Whole School Model, prepared by the project, before their use in the pilot implementation. Practical advice on how to apply the Model and to use the materials was provided.

A total of 240 teachers selected from the 10 pilot provinces of the Project will have been trained by 7 August 2021. Teachers completing the training modules will be certified as “trainers”, so to be able to prepare their peers in their respective provinces through further cascade trainings. Around 5000 teachers will therefore disseminate and use the tools to strengthen democratic culture in schools.
