The Council of Europe through its joint European Union and Council of Europe Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo* (PECK III) is supporting Kosovo Agency for Prevention of Corruption (APC) to address challenges and deficiencies related to the asset declaration system for public officials. 

In this context, the project launched a specific on-the-job training programme for the staff of the APC, who carries out verification and auditing of asset declarations, which took place from 1 to 3 November 2023.

The aim of the programme is to provide hands-on guidance and expert advice to mentees through provision of case-based and operational input on verification and auditing of asset declarations by taking into account international standards and good comparative practice.

The event was addressed by the Minister of Justice who acknowledged the support by the Council of Europe in strengthening institutional mechanisms for countering corruption and reiterated commitment to continue with reforms in this area.

This initiative builds upon joint EU/Council of Europe and beneficiaries’ efforts in identifying challenges faced and improvement needs with regard to fighting corruption, money laundering and financing of terrorism in Kosovo by also taking into account the Anti-corruption Assessment of 2018 conducted under PECK II. Moreover, the provided support is also interlinked with the Declaration for Justice Reform seeking to strengthen mechanisms for asset declaration for judges and prosecutors in Kosovo.

The activity was organised within the framework of the “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III), jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the latter.
