The Council of Europe through its joint European Union (EU) and Council of Europe Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo* (PECK III) is supporting Kosovo authorities to strengthen the implementation of targeted financial sanctions related to financing of terrorism and proliferation financing (FT/PF).
For this purpose and following the recent entry into force of the Law on implementation of Targeted International Financial Sanctions, PECK III organised a Training on 16 and 17 May 2023 in Pristina. The aim of this activity was to provide outreach for relevant competent institutions and reporting entities and raise awareness on international standards and implementation of domestic legislation on targeted financial sanctions.

Representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Police, Financial Intelligence Unit, Central Bank, Export Control and Customs/ Control Authorities, Tax Authorities and financial institutions were acquainted with the types and varieties of the targeted financial sanctions imposed by the United Nations and the EU. The participants enhanced their knowledge on evolving aspects of international standards and were familiarised with examples from the practices of substantially effective countries. Moreover, the relevant authorities were provided with the tools to be used for effective implementation of the Law.

The Council of Europe will provide further support with the development of a practical targeted guidance for Kosovo authorities on implementation of targeted financial sanctions.

The activity was organised within the framework of the “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III), jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe.
