The Council of Europe in cooperation with the Kosovo Justice Academy organised a two-day training session on investigation and prosecution of money laundering cases related to virtual assets which took place on 3 and 4 October 2023. The event was organised within the framework of the joint European Union and Council of Europe “Project against Economic Crime” (PECK III).

The primary objective of the training was to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills in the investigation and prosecution of money laundering cases involving virtual assets. 

The representatives of Financial Intelligence Unit, Police, Tax Administration, Prosecution, Courts, Customs, Central Bank and the Agency for Prevention of Corruption increased their understanding on international standards and core concepts related to virtual assets. Moreover, they were informed on tactics and methods employed by criminals to exploit virtual assets for illicit activities, including the identification of typologies and red flags. 

Throughout the training, practical exercises allowed participants to gain insights into the tactics and methods used to abuse virtual assets for illicit purposes.
The diversity of participation underscored the collaborative and multidisciplinary approach required to effectively address the multifaceted issue of money laundering through virtual assets.

This initiative builds upon the ongoing support provided by the Project against Economic Crime (PECK III) in Kosovo to the strengthening the of capacities of law enforcement officials and other relevant stakeholders in combating money laundering. 

The activity was organised within the framework of the “Project against Economic Crime in Kosovo” (PECK III), jointly funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the latter.
