SNAC 3 Project raises awareness of CoE anti-corruption standards in Morocco

On 24-25 September 2019, the South Neighbourhood Anti-Corruption Project (SNAC 3) organised two consecutive actions aimed at raising the awareness of Moroccan authorities on Council of Europe anti-corruption standards and monitoring mechanisms with a view towards Morocco’s possible accession to the Group of States against Corruption (GRECO). More than 30 representatives of key Moroccan institutions, including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, National Anti-corruption Authority (INPPLC), General Directorate of National Security and the Public Procurement Review Board, attended a workshop in Rabat on 24 September during which they were able to learn more about the Council of Europe’s Criminal and Civil Law Conventions on Corruption and the related implementation monitoring mechanism (GRECO). The workshop was followed by a set of bilateral meetings on the 25 September with the investigation and research departments of the INPPLC, which were used to inform the interlocutors of good practices of anti-corruption authorities in GRECO member states that could be useful guidance to the INPPLC as it proceeds with its restructuring pursuant to its new constitutionally mandated formation. These activities will be followed up with further actions, including the INPPLC's participation in the 4th periodical meeting of the Šibenik Network of Corruption Prevention Authorities on 17-18 October 2019 in Tunis, Tunisia.
