World Refugee Day 2026: promoting solidarity, inclusion and mutual understanding in the Republic of Moldova

Refugees, asylum seekers, displaced persons, representatives of international organisations and more gathered for a cultural and community event organised by the Council of Europe in Trebujeni, Orheiul Vechi, to mark World Refugee Day 2026.

Participants had the opportunity to discover the rich cultural heritage of Orheiul Vechi, through a guided tour and to take part in activities showcasing Moldovan traditions, history and cuisine.

A highlight of the programme was an interactive culinary workshop in which participants prepared the traditional Moldovan dessert “Cușma lui Guguță”, creating a welcoming space for informal interaction and intercultural exchange.

The programme also included dance performances by the senior folk dance ensemble “Hora Satului”, as well as interactive activities aimed at strengthening resilience, well-being and mutual support, based on the Resilience Journal for Adolescents.

The activity was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project on “Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova: phase II”, funded and implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025-2028, in cooperation with the General Inspectorate for Migration of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
