A two-day workshop was held for members of the Commission for Monitoring and Analysis of Cases of Domestic Violence Resulting in Death or Serious Bodily Injury (Femicide Commission).
The event brought together 22 participants (18 women and 4 men) from national authorities and civil society organisations.
Participants explored the Council of Europe Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention) as a guiding framework.
The workshop also addressed international standards for measuring femicide, the effectiveness of the current national data collection form, and its alignment with Article 11 of the Istanbul Convention as a guiding framework. Participants examined key rulings of the European Court of Human Rights in cases of domestic violence resulting in the victim’s death, and enhanced their capacity to analyze such cases as part of the Commission’s Annual Lethality Report.
Good practice examples from other countries were shared to contribute to future improvements.
The workshop was facilitated by Council of Europe consultants Biljana Brankovic, Justyna Hejman-Mancewicz, and Angelina Zaporojan-Pirgari.
This activity was organised with the support of the Council of Europe project “Support for the Implementation of the Istanbul Convention in the Republic of Moldova – Phase II.”
