Progress and priorities discussed at the Steering Committee meeting of the Council of Europe Project supporting the Ombudsperson’s Office

On 18 February 2026, the Steering Committee of the Council of Europe project “Support to the Office of the Ombudsperson in the Protection of Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova – Phase I” convened its final meeting under the current implementation phase.

The purpose of the meeting was to review implementation progress and the key results achieved over the past year, as well as to identify priorities for further strengthening the institutional, operational, and strategic development of the Ombudsperson’s Office.

During the session, participants examined developments across the project’s three core areas of intervention: strengthening the institutional and managerial capacities of the Ombudsperson’s Office, enhancing interaction between the Office and the system of the European Convention on Human Rights, and consolidating human rights promotion and advocacy mechanisms within the Office.

The meeting also included an evaluation and feedback segment, during which project beneficiaries shared their perspectives on the relevance and practical impact of the support provided. Participants emphasised the project’s contribution to consolidating institutional practices, clarifying internal procedures, increasing visibility and public engagement, and enhancing the capacity of the Ombudsperson’s Office to effectively and proactively fulfil its human rights protection mandate.
