Over 50 students from the School of Fine Arts "Alexei Sciusev" participated in a public lesson on disinformation in the context of migration. The event also marked the launch of the 6th edition of the national art competition ”Through art we combat disinformation #TruthAboutMigration#YoungGenerationKnows”.
During the lesson, children were introduced to the phenomenon of disinformation, learning how to distinguish between true and false information and understanding its impact on vulnerable groups such as refugees and migrants.
The event featured guest speakers Cristina Lupu, Executive Director of the Centre for Independent Journalism in Romania, and Veronica Boboc, Executive Director of the “Media Centre for Youth” NGO in the Republic of Moldova. Through engaging presentations and Q&A sessions, they explored the effects of disinformation and manipulation, particularly how it shapes public perception of migrants and refugees.
The national art competition aims to raise awareness among children and young people about the impact of disinformation on society and vulnerable groups, while also promoting a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by refugees and migrants.
The competition is open to children aged between 11 and 18 from art schools, fine arts schools, creative children’s centres, general education and secondary schools, centres of excellence and art colleges.
The competition “Through art we combat disinformation #TruthAboutMigration#YoungGenerationKnows” is organised by the National Institute of Justice and the School of Fine Arts “Alexei Sciusev” in partnership with the Council of Europe project “Strengthening the protection of human rights of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova: phase II”, funded and implemented under the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2025-2028.
