Moldovan legal professionals participated in an International Conference on Human Rights and Migration in Ankara

Ten representatives of the People’s Advocate Office, members of the Consultative Council for Preventing Violation of the Rights of Refugees and professionals from the National Institute of Justice participated in the international Conference on Human Rights and Migration in the Context of Natural Disasters and Emergency Situations, which took place in Ankara, Türkiye on 11-12 June 2024.

The event brought together over 100 legal professionals and representatives of government agencies, human rights institutions, international organisations, bar associations, and civil society from Türkiye and Moldova to promote jurisprudence, international standards and to share experience and good practices on the protection of vulnerable persons, including children, in the context of natural disasters, mass arrivals of displaced persons and emergency situations, with a view to improving the response and collaboration of the institutions involved.

Moldovan participants, Ms Carolina Cazaciuc, Head of Examination of Complaints and Protection of Persons Directorate, People’s Advocate Office and Mr Andrei Lutenco, Member of the Consultative Council for Preventing Violation of the Rights of Refugees under the People’s Advocate Office shared their expertise and experience in monitoring the respect for the human rights of displaced persons from Ukraine in the context of freedom of movement and access to services in the Republic of Moldova  as well as on the role of civil society mobilisation in protecting the human rights of displaced persons.  

The Conference was organised by the European Union/Council of Europe joint action on “Strengthening the human rights protection in the context of migration in Türkiye”, co-funded by the European Union and Council of Europe under the “Horizontal Facility for the Western Balkans and Türkiye” programme in cooperation with the Council of Europe Project on “Strengthening the human rights protection of refugees and migrants in the Republic of Moldova”, funded under the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024.
