Judges and prosecutors took part  in a series of trainings dedicated to the institutions of the European Union (EU) as well as protection of fundamental rights and competences of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), international legal cooperation in criminal matters and the rule of law standards under the EU framework.

Mr. Razvan Horațiu RADU, international consultant of the Council of Europe along with Mr. Iulian Alexandru RUSU, NIJ trainer, delivered sessions on the EU founding treaties, its institutions and mechanisms as well as the decision making process within the EU. Their sessions also focused on the protection of fundamental rights within the EU and the CJEU.

Ms. Laura Felicia CEH, international consultant of the Council of Europe, and Ms. Diana ROTUNDU, trainer of the NIJ, focused on the international legal cooperation in criminal matters, relevant institutions as well as the available tools and mechanisms within the EU in this respect.

Mr. Horațius Nicolae DUMBRAVĂ, international consultant of the Council of Europe, along with Mr. Iulian Alexandru RUSU, trainer of the NIJ in their joint sessions covered the standards of the Council of Europe concerning the rule of law, the EU mechanisms pertaining to the rule of law and the relevant jurisprudence of the CJEU.

The trainings were a result of the joint efforts of the Council of Europe and the National Institute of Justice (NIJ) to strengthen the knowledge of judges and prosecutors on various aspects of the EU law. The training sessions were integrated in the module on the EU Law included in the continuous training programme for judges and prosecutors of the NIJ and were delivered jointly by international consultants of the Council of Europe and the national trainers of the NIJ.

 The trainings were organised within the framework of the Joint Project of the European Union and the Council of Europe "Support to the Justice Reform in the Republic of Moldova".
