Discussions over the cases of the Republic of Moldova under supervision procedure at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe

The second meeting of the Advisory Council under the Government Agent of the Republic of Moldova was held on 28 March 2024 with the participation of national authorities, civil society, and academia, as well as representatives from the Department for the Execution of Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights of the Council of Europe.

The purpose of the meeting was to examine several judgments against the Republic of Moldova in advanced and standard supervision procedures at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe and to identify effective solutions to address the problems.

“There are currently 163 Moldovan cases in the supervision at the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, which means that 27% of the judgments delivered by the European Court against the Republic of Moldova remain unexecuted. The Republic of Moldova is on the 8th place according to the number of cases which supervision is pending before the Committee of Ministers”, stated Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Moldova.

The discussions at the Advisory Council meeting are of paramount importance as they provide a vital platform for exchanging ideas, assessing progress, and identifying solutions to streamline the process of executing the European Court judgments against the Republic of Moldova.

The meeting was organised within the framework of the Council of Europe Project “Strengthening the human rights compliant criminal justice system in the Republic of Moldova”, which is part of the Council of Europe Action Plan for the Republic of Moldova for 2021-2024.
