A new survey on respect for human rights launched in Chisinau

The Study on Perceptions of Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova 2023 has been presented to the general public.

The survey was conducted during 2023 and covers multiple aspects of human rights, including the level of information of the population, respect for rights in different areas - education, health, environment, work, decent living, freedom of assembly and association, fair trial, life and physical and mental integrity, information, opinion and expression, equality and non-discrimination, participation in decision-making, with a major focus on respect for the rights of children and refugee persons.

Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau, attended the launch event, together with Adrian Efros, Minister of Internal Affairs, Ceslav Panico, People's Advocate, Maha Damaj, Country Representative of UNICEF Moldova, as well as the representatives of state authorities and civil society organisations.

"The study is a valuable tool to understand the perceptions of human rights beneficiaries, be they citizens of the Republic of Moldova or displaced persons, regarding the level of respect of their rights. Building on the survey results, the existing problems in this area can be identified, but at the same time the importance of understanding human rights is promoted and the impact of state policies on the population is highlighted", mentioned Falk Lange, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Chisinau.

The discussions during the event provided a detailed insight into the role of the state in ensuring respect for human rights, identifying existing problems and planning future strategic actions to improve the situation in the context of the Republic of Moldova's commitments in the process of accession to the European Union.

The study Perceptions of Human Rights in the Republic of Moldova 2023 was conducted by the People's Advocate Office with the support of the Council of Europe and UNICEF Moldova.
