The Working Group examines draft Opinion on providing support and safeguards for prosecutors in order to enable an efficient prosecution service

The CCPE Working Group met in Strasbourg on 28-29 May 2026 to discuss draft Opinion No. 21 (2026) of the CCPE on providing support and safeguards for prosecutors in order to enable an efficient prosecution service.

The members of the Working Group discussed and finalised draft Opinion prepared on the basis of the structure approved by the Working Group during its meeting in February 2026. It includes seven key areas of support to be provided to prosecutors to ensure their efficient work responding to public expectations and serving the rule of law: protection and security of prosecutors, their well-being, working conditions, efficient management of prosecution services, regulation of relations between prosecutors and the media, including social media, availability of modern technologies for prosecutors, specialised training in a constantly evolving legal environment.

The Opinion aims to assemble and consolidate in one document already existing standards in these areas from various sources, as well as to update those standards to meet and to overcome current challenges faced by prosecutors in member states, and to introduce new standards where necessary. This is done while acknowledging the diversity of existing legal systems and models in Europe.
