Preparation of the CCPE Opinion on Independence, accountability and ethics of prosecutors

The CCPE Working group in charge of preparing draft Opinion No. 13 (2018) of the CCPE on Independence, accountability and ethics of prosecutors will meet in Paris on 7 and 8 June 2018. One of the main objectives of this opinion is to recall that the Public Prosecutor’s duties must be solely focused on the search for the truth and application of the law. This opinion will also draw on fundamental principles such as the equality of users before the law, the right of an impartial trial and a neutral prosecutor during the investigation, and will analyse what the responsibility of a prosecutor should be and what ethical principles apply to them. The opinion should be adopted at the CCPE plenary meeting to be held in Strasbourg on 22 and 23 November 2018.
