Advancing mediation in Azerbaijan: CEPEJ workshops for mediators and lawyers

CEPEJ organised a series of workshops from 19 to 21 November 2025 to strengthen mediation practices in Azerbaijan.

The first workshop, titled “Improving the professional skills of mediators”, provided 27 Azerbaijani mediators with information on new techniques such as active listening, questioning methods, recognising emotions, which facilitate effective dispute resolution through mediation.

The second workshop, titled “From dispute to dialogue: the role of lawyers in mediation”, increased awareness among members of the Bar Association of Azerbaijan regarding the growing importance of mediation. A total of 32 lawyers participated, exploring both the opportunities that mediation offers as an alternative to litigation and the essential role lawyers play in advising and guiding clients throughout the mediation process.

Both workshops introduced participants to relevant CEPEJ tools on mediation and were organised in cooperation with the Mediation Council, the Azerbaijan Bar Association, and the Academy of Justice of Azerbaijan.

These activities were organised within the framework of the Project “Fostering mediation in Azerbaijan”, funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe and implemented by the Council of Europe in their Partnership for Good Governance III (2023-2027)
