Digital Development Unit represented the Council of Europe in Swiss OSCE Chairpersonship Conference “Anticipating Technologies – for a safe and humane future”, held in CERN Science Gateway in Geneva on 7-8 May 2026. The conference brought together representatives of governments, international organisations, academia and civil society to discuss the opportunities and challenges posed by emerging technologies. Council of Europe contributed specifically to the session on “Artificial intelligence and conflict prevention”, by highlighting the importance of ensuring that the development and use of AI remain aligned with human rights, democracy and the rule of law. The relevance of the Council of Europe’s work in advancing responsible and human-centric governance of artificial intelligence was underlined.
