CAI Chair Participates in University of Trieste Conference on AI and Human Rights, Democracy and Rule of Law

On 29 May 2025, the Chair of the Committee on Artificial Intelligence (CAI), Mr Mario HERNANDEZ RAMOS, delivered a keynote speech at a conference hosted by the University of Trieste, Italy, co-funded by the Italian Ministry of University and the European Union.

CAI Chair: "Human values must be the essence of the design, development and deployment of artificial intelligence, and the CoE Convention plays a key role in achieving this."

Mr Hernandez Ramos joined a diverse panel of legal scholars to explore the opportunities and challenges for safeguarding human rights, democracy, and the rule of law in the face of AI advancements. Discussions benefitted from a comparative range of domestic (Italian), European and International perspectives, with particular focus on how the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention fits into this rapidly evolving landscape.
