Fighting corruption in France: what progress?

In a report published today, the Council of Europe's anti-corruption group (GRECO) reviews a number of measures taken by France since 2009.

While it welcomes France's implementation of recommendations on the criminalisation of acts of corruption, particularly the extension of the limitation period, GRECO also calls on the authorities to pursue their efforts to increase transparency of political party funding, including through the consolidation of political parties' accounts and the stepping up of auditing by the National Commission on campaign accounts and political financing (CNCCFP).

Of GRECO's 17 recommendations, 12 have now been dealt with satisfactorily, while the other five have been partially implemented.

This report completes the evaluation of France as regards criminalisation of corruption and transparency of political party funding.
