The Unit is the focal point for LGBT-Issues within the Council of Europe. Its objectives is to implement  Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)5, to organise and support relevant conferences and activities, document relevant developments and be the home of the Council of Europe LGBT Project.

The LGBT Issues Unit was created in October 2011 under the Directorate of Human Rights and Antidiscrimination (DGII).

Council of Europe Activities
  • 22 - 28 Sept. 2013 STRASBOURG, FRANCE: Equality in Action Mobilising Youth. IGLYO & TGEU Study Session
    This study session is organised by IGLYO and TGEU in cooperation with the Youth Department of the Council of Europe. During this conference the LGBT Issues Unit of the Council of Europe will lead a half-day session on Recommendation CM/Rec(2010)5, the implementation of the Recommendation and the work of the LGBT Issues Unit.
  • 03 – 04 Oct 2013 KOLASIN, MONTENEGRO: 11th Roundtable of the Informal Network of Governmental LGBT Focal Points
    The LGBT Issues Unit attends these roundtables as a member of the Informal Network of Focal Points and brings the Coordinators from our partner countries. It is generally the occasion to add a meeting between the LGBT Project and its Coordinators on the latest stage of our work together.
  • 10 – 11 Oct. 2013 ROME, ITALY: Seminar on assessing asylum claims by LGBTI asylum-seekers
    On 10-11 October, the UNHCR and the Council of Europe will organise a conference in Rome, Italy, to review the assessment of LGBT asylum claims. Participants from the 47 member states of the Council of Europe have been invited.
  • 24 – 27 Oct. 2013 BERLIN, GERMANY: 24/7 Unicorn conference on LGBT diversity in the workplace and Sticks & Stones career fair
    The Sticks & Stones career fair is an annual event where businesses encourage employment of LGBT people. The LGBT Project will attend this event and the related conference the day before. The Project has invited their project countries to send relevant persons as well, and is organising a ‘Meet & Great’ side event for guests from project countries and business representatives from the same countries.
