4. International co-operation
The Council of Europe
participates in a comprehensive strategy of co-operation with other
international organisations (United Nations, OSCE/ODIHR, UNESCO,
European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA), European
Commission, and other international institutions, particularly the
Task Force for International Co-operation on Holocaust Education,
Remembrance and Research (ITF), with which a memorandum of
understanding has been signed.
The aims of this international
co-operation are:
- to develop a remembrance diplomacy dynamic, making use of
each organisation's specific characteristics,
- to avoid duplication and make economies of scale,
- to learn from the other organisations' experience and help
to distribute their documentation.
The first
international organisation to involve itself in Holocaust
remembrance teaching, the Council of Europe organised an initial
meeting of international organisations and institutions in
Strasbourg in February 2009.
