The 40th anniversary of the European Diploma of protected areas awarded to the Krimml Falls in Austria was
celebrated on 26 October 2007 in the Hohe Tauern National Park. The European Diploma, awarded in 1967 and
continually renewed since, enabled the implementation of concrete measures to effectively protect this
exceptional natural monument and to harmoniously develop the surrounding valley.
These 40 years of the European Diploma also represent an exemplary and fruitful co-operation between the Council
of Europe and the Austrian authorities, the area’s managers and the different partners involved in the management
of the site.
