The Council of Europe held the 1st Steering Committee meeting of the Action “Supporting effective remedies and mutual legal assistance”. The Action is part of the co-operation framework co-funded by the European Union and the Council of Europe, known as the “Horizontal Facility for Western Balkans and Turkey”.

Tim Cartwright, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, opened the meeting. Tatiana Termacic, Head of Human Rights National Implementation Division of the Council of Europe, gave a brief overview of the Action and encouraged everyone to build upon substantial achievements of previous projects in the field of judiciary. The representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia emphasised that the two organisations share common values, and that the presence of public institutions at the Steering Committee shows their commitment to the Action.

The presentation of a draft six-month plan of activities was followed by a discussion, during which the beneficiaries expressed their readiness to contribute to the achievement of the Action’s objectives, having in mind that the results of the Action depend on their engagement.
