A delegation of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities visited Azerbaijan last week (23-27 October 2023) to evaluate progress made in the protection of national minorities.
This was the fifth visit of the Advisory Committee to Azerbaijan. The delegation held meetings in Baku, Lankaran, Quba and Khinalig with representatives of the government as well as civil society and representatives of national minorities to discuss the implementation of the Framework Convention. In its meeting with government representatives, the delegation also raised issues regarding the situation in Karabakh.
The visit took place in the context of the preparation by the Advisory Committee of its fifth opinion on the implementation of the Framework Convention in Azerbaijan. The fifth opinion is expected to be adopted in 2024.
