  Aim

The aim of this study session is to increase the capacities of environmental activists, youth workers and NGO representatives to improve the access to environmental rights of young people and the implementation of the CM/REC (2022)20 Recommendation on human rights and the protection of the environment at European and local level.

 Objectives

  • To deepen the knowledge and understanding of young people on environmental rights and map ways of addressing environmental rights challenges in different realities.
  • To introduce CM/REC (2022)20 Recommendation (in relation to human rights and the protection of the environment) by reflecting on the nature, content, and implications of the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment.
  • To map what is already being done, what needs to be improved, what needs to be started in relation to Recommendation in different realities.
  • To develop the skills and knowledge of participants in mobilising youth for the recognition of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment through advocacy, educational and policy frameworks.
  • To create tools for young people and civil societies to understand and foster the recognition of the right to a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment as a human right.

 About the organisation

The Youth and Environment Europe (YEE) focuses on youth participation, empowerment, non-formal education, and intersectionality. The YEE leads advocacy work for climate justice and support meaningful and inclusive youth participation in environmental fora. YEE also empowers young people through various activities and recognises the interconnectedness of environmental issues with social inequality and discrimination.
