European Youth Centre Budapest Marks Europe Day with Human Rights Activities and Living Library

The European Youth Centre Budapest (EYCB) joined this year's Europe Day celebrations at Szabadság tér in the Hungarian capital, taking part in a day-long public event organised by the Representation of the European Commission in Hungary.

The annual event commemorates Hungary's accession to the European Union and draws together international organisations, civil society groups and members of the public for a programme of activities in the heart of the city.

This year, the EYCB used the occasion to spotlight human rights education for young people. Visitors to the centre's stand were invited to take part in human rights quizzes, while younger attendees took part in drawing activities and interactive games designed to introduce rights-based themes in an accessible way.

In partnership with the Colour Catcher Association, the centre also hosted a Living Library — a format that allows participants to engage in open, personal conversations with volunteer "human books", promoting dialogue and mutual understanding.

An estimated 300 people actively participated in the structured activities, based on the number of completed quizzes and registered Living Library readers, with considerably more visitors passing through the stand over the course of the day.
